The strong tip is a decent track for the $1.2 million Kelt Capital Stakes at Hastings on Saturday.
The North Island's volatile weather has left most guessing about the spring's most important horse race.
Rain in Hastings yesterday did nothing to ease the angst of the form analysts.
But almost all forecasts are for clearing weather and fine for late Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Ken Ring, of Predict Weather, knew that 18 months ago when he did his hugely popular long-range forecasts.
"I've got a few showers late on Wednesday, then fairly dry conditions through until Sunday," Ring told the Herald yesterday.
That mirrors the forecast most use, which is plucked from weather patterns across Australia, from where our weather generates three to four days in advance.
Rain fell on the Hastings course yesterday afternoon, but local trainer Patrick Campbell said that given the forecast he was expecting close to a perfect track.
There has been little change to the top of the TAB betting market as a result.
Windsor Park Plate winner Daffodil remains the dominant $2.80 favourite ahead of Australian-based Sarrera, who chased her home in that race, at $6.
More rain would have suited Sarrera, but the Melbourne veteran is still a live chance on a decent surface.
"The top of the market is extremely tight because of the defections," said head TAB bookie Thad Taylor.
"Tell A Tale, Mufhasa and Boundless have come out and that's changed where the money is."
Taylor said Eel Win is a bad result, simply because a few South Islanders have had a crack at long odds.
"We opened him up at $100-plus and you only need $500 bets at that level to make the book awkward."
Taylor said Ginga Dude is also a bad result for his book.
"They always back him in big races like this."
Ginga Dude was last night at $16.
The market: $2.80 Daffodil, $6 Sarrera, $8 Tavistock, $10 Harris Tweed, $14 Sterling Prince, $16 Ginga Dude, Prince Kaapstad; $18 Jungle Rocket, $21 Yanna Marie, Alagant Satin, All In Black; $26 Gallions Reach, The Pooka; $31 Fritzy Boy, $41 Sir Slick, $51 Arlington, Eel Win, Vosne Romanee.
