Rural views, but blending into the landscape, was the prescription for the four-bedroom house built for Brian and Leanne Eunson at Maungakaramea, 15km from Whangarei.
The elevated site provided extensive views and Steve Povey designed a home in natural country tones which fits seamlessly into the 3.2ha property.
Whangarei builder Rob Littlejohn completed the job to a standard which won him second prize in the category for homes between $320,000 and $450,000.
The exterior finish is a blend of paradise stone, cedar bevelled weatherboards and 60mm Rockcote with a stone-finish texture.
The weathered hardwood pergola and coloured concrete paving to the barbecue area, copper spouting and down pipes, all add to the natural finish.
The interior has split-level flooring to flow with ground levels and separate the living areas.
Third place in this category went to Heartland Homes for a home at Manukau.
