Dozens of people turned up at Massey University's Recreation Centre on Wednesday hoping for a part in Peter Jackson's film King Kong.
They were tested on facial expression, voice projection, improvised speech and, of course, funny walking.
At one stage, six people stood in a circle singing Monty Python's Always Look on the Bright Side of Life in the style of a church choir, a New Zealand Idol contestant and a rock singer.
But the potential actors were the victims of a student capping stunt, organised by "director" Ash Flowerday, who said afterwards: "I'm going into hiding."
