A young man was run down on a pedestrian crossing in a suspected hit and run in central Wellington last night.
Police are seeking witnesses to the incident which happened at about 5.15pm near the Downstage theatre at the end of Courtenay Place and crossing Cambridge Terrace.
A male in his 20s stepped out onto the crossing on the green pedestrian signal and was hit by a car travelling along Cambridge Terrace heading north towards Wakefield Street.
The early model hatchback-style vehicle then travelled further down Cambridge Terrace before stopping briefly while the victim was assisted to his feet by members of the public, police say.
An ambulance was called and the victim was treated for minor injuries at the scene before making his own way home.
