Two people have been taken to hospital with burns to their faces and hands after a gas appliance exploded in a caravan.
The fire service was called to the Colombo Rd property just before 7pm last night to find the caravan well ablaze.
Masterton fire station officer Doug Flowerday said while they were still investigating they believed a gas appliance was responsible. The incident has prompted the fire fighter to warn people of the dangers of using gas appliances including heaters, in enclosed space especially caravans.
He said there needed to be good ventilation and fresh air moving through the space to keep the gas fumes down.
Meanwhile, a man who didn't wish to be named and lived nearby said the explosion was rather loud. "I'm not sure if it was the caravan but it was a pretty loud bang ..." he said.
