An English tourist had to be rescued from the Motatapu track, between Arrowtown and Wanaka, early this morning.
Senior Sergeant James Ure, of Dunedin, said a family member of the 54-year-old man called police, prompting a search at 10.30pm yesterday.
He was found at 2.20am today.
Police were unsure exactly where on the track he had been found, or in what condition.
The man had hitchhiked from Queenstown to the start of the track in Glendhu Bay.
