KEY POINTS:
A teenager is set to appear in court today after a woman was stabbed multiple times in a domestic incident in Tauranga.
Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Turner said the 40-year-old woman was stabbed "seven or eight times in the neck and upper chest area" at 6pm yesterday.
The woman was in Tauranga Hospital and police believed her injuries were not life-threatening, Mr Turner told NZPA.
The attack happened at a flat on Park Street in central Tauranga.
A 19-year-old male had been arrested and was due to appear at the Tauranga District Court today charged with assault.
"Once we've interviewed the victim and finished all our inquiries, I'd imagine he'll face further charges," Mr Turner said.
The knife believed to have been used in the attack had been recovered by police.
