TAURANGA -The Tauranga District Council is keen to press ahead with its proposed youth trust.
The council has already approved $50,000 to set up the Tauranga Moana Trust to identify youth issues in the city and act as an advocate to funding sources and support agencies.
Deputy Mayor Stuart Crosby said it was time to develop the proposal and appoint trustees.
"The council wants a trust that will focus on all young people, not just those with special needs. The time has come to move forward."
The council is seeking five to seven people who might have ideas about what facilities, support and advice young people would accept, and who would like to make a difference for youth in the community.
Mr Crosby said the trustees would include two people aged between 18 and 25 to ensure the trust was listening to youth concerns.
He said the trust was the first set up by a district council to deal with youth problems.
