Wet weather has created pothole chaos in Northland with reports of about 15 punctures after vehicles struck a pothole.
And it's believed a pothole near Kaiwaka may have been a factor in a non-injury crash between two cars.
Senior Sergeant Cliff Metcalfe was warning motorists to take care especially on a section of State Highway 1 between Baldrock and Mountain Roads, on the southern side of the Brynderwyn Hill.
A tow truck driver had contacted police just after 1pm today to say he was helping motorists change tyres after they unsuspectingly hit the pothole which caused tyres to puncture. He reported up to 15 vehicles had been caught out.
"It seems the wet weather is causing all the road repairs in these spots to come apart," Mr Metcalfe said.
