KEY POINTS:
Tauranga police are still searching for two of the three men involved in a "vicious" home invasion on Thursday evening.
A 55-year-old was taken to Tauranga Hospital after three men burst into his Cook St home on Thursday evening demanding money. The intruders bashed the man on the head with a tomahawk and also threw him into a glass display. The victim's 17-year-old son was also hurt in the attack after one of the intruders punched him in the head.
Police arrested a 31-year-old man in connection with the incident in the early hours of Friday morning. He appeared in Tauranga District Court yesterday and has been remanded in custody to reappear in court on Monday.
Detective Sergeant Mel Ridley said police had examined the house and found a number of items they hoped would provide forensic evidence.
"We have found some items that have helped us and we are talking to a number of people. Hopefully it will help us come up with an identification," he said.
Police are looking for two male Maori probably in their late teens or early 20s.
