A woman who put her broken cellphone in the back of her ute couldn't believe her eyes when her vehicle caught on fire on the way to her child's sports match.
Janine Parrish's Samsung device was broken into several pieces when she put in the covered tray of her Toyota Hilux.
About 10-minutes in to a trip from Paeroa to Tairua, Parrish noticed smoke coming from the rear of the vehicle.
"I couldn't really believe my eyes," Parrish told Fairfax. "I didn't know what it was really.
