A light plane has crashed in the Kapiti Coast settlement of Raumati killing at least one person.
A Kapiti Coast police spokeswoman confirmed a plane had crashed but had no details at this stage.
"All (police) personnel are out at it, we don't have any further information at the moment," she said.
Inspector Tom Ireland of police central communications said the accident happened shortly after 1pm today, when the plane crashed in the beach settlement of Raumati South.
"At this stage there appears to be one fatality. Police, fire and ambulance are in attendance," he said.
It was thought the plane crashed into the back yard of a home. There were no details yet of injuries to residents or damage to property.
