The jury in the trial of the man accused of murdering Tauranga woman Jo-Anne Van Duyvenbooden retired for the night after deliberating much of yesterday.
The jury had retired to consider its verdict after the Chief Justice, Dame Sian Elias, gave her summing-up in the morning following the three-week-long trial in the High Court at Rotorua.
James Henry Wilson, aged 41, the president of Tauranga's Filthy Few motorcycle club, has pleaded not guilty to the murder of Ms Van Duyvenbooden between August 16 and 18 last year.
He has also denied perverting the course of justice at Waikeria Prison between September 16 and 24 last year.
Wilson is accused of shooting Ms Van Duyvenbooden three times in the head at her home at Welcome Bay and dragging her body down a bank. Her car was rolled down the bank and clothes and a mattress were dumped on top of her body.
