Professor John Morrow has been appointed deputy vice-chancellor (academic) at The University of Auckland. As deputy vice-chancellor, Professor Morrow will have responsibility for the academic affairs of the university.

Julian Novitz took up his residency at the Sargeson Centre alongside Auckland University on July 1. His short story Three Couples won the 2008 Katherine Mansfield Award. Novitz and 2009's other winner, Steve Braunias, received a $20,000 grant, allowing them to write full time while using the apartment.
