Masterton residents have given the town's water supply, parks and parking two big thumbs up, a new satisfaction survey has shown.
The latest annual Communitrak Survey of 400 people randomly selected by phone showed a 10 per cent increase in residents' satisfaction with urban water up to 94 per cent satisfied from 84 per cent last year.
This compares with an average of 86 per cent across other districts in the country.
"Our results are compared with a selection of provincial councils (peer group) and with results from all councils surveyed," Mayor Garry Daniell said.
"And given the fact we are continuing to invest in the water supply infrastructure the news is welcome."
Mr Daniell said another big jump in satisfaction was with Aratoi Wairarapa Museum of Art and History, with 71 per cent of respondents satisfied with the facility.
The previous year only 59 per cent of residents surveyed expressed satisfaction with Aratoi.
Aratoi also exceeded peer and national satisfaction levels, with 91 per cent of those who visited Aratoi saying they were satisfied.
This compared with other galleries rating only 61 per cent (peer group) and 64 per cent (national average).
"This tells us we are giving visitors to Aratoi a good experience, and it also tells us that more people think Aratoi is doing well, irrespective of whether they have personally visited," Mr Daniell said.
Other areas where the Masterton exceeded across-the-board average satisfaction levels were parking in the CBD, roading and the Genesis Energy Recreation Centre.
Those who thought Masterton was a better place to live listed parks and reserves, general presentation, business growth, plenty to do, the recreation centre and improved facilities and amenities as reasons for the improvement.
Services most used were parks and reserves, transfer stations and the public library. There was also a 91 per cent showing of support for community assistance.
The survey also showed people generally feel Masterton is as good as or better than it was three years ago, that it is safe and is preserving its natural environment.
Satisfaction with the environment continues to fluctuate from 73 per cent to 80 per cent and is similar to other councils.
Satisfaction with the way the council involved the public in its decisions was, however, at just 47 per cent, with 29 per cent neither satisfied nor dissatisfied.
