A Northland man has been jailed for 21 days for abusing a judge who refused to grant him bail.
William Toko, 30, of Dargaville, refused to enter pleas on drink driving and driving while disqualified charges when he appeared in Whangarei District Court yesterday.
When Judge John McDonald then refused bail, Toko called him a w*****.
He apologised two hours later, but the judge said it was insufficient and jailed him for contempt of court.
