A Lower Hutt steel manufacturer has been fined $52,000 and ordered to pay $15,000 reparations after a worker had three fingers cut off in an accident.
Kiwi Steel was charged with failing to ensure the worker's safety.
The injury happened as the employee was trying to unjam a blockage on a guillotine.
There was no guard fitted to the rear of the machine although one had been supplied.
Although all three fingers were surgically re-attached, one was subsequently removed.
