KEY POINTS:
Christchurch police are confident an international tennis tournament will be safe after a security threat was made to the International Tennis Federation (ITF).
The threat to the Fed Cup Asia/Oceania Zone tournament in Christchurch, starting on April 18 at Wilding Park, was made to the ITF in London.
It was sent by unidentified sources.
Police are working to track the origin.
"We are confident that the protection and systems are in place to ensure there is a safe tournament," Detective Sergeant Earle Borrell said.
All competing nations have now been advised of the threat, he said.
Police, working closely with overseas authorities, are investigating.
Event organisers and police were putting in place a security plan to ensure the safe running of the event, Mr Blackwell said.
The competition was due to start on April 18 at Wilding Park. April 21 is the final day of the round-robin tournament.
Nations competing are India, Thailand, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong China, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Korea, New Zealand, Syria, Jordan and Singapore.
Detective Sergeant Earle Borrell confirmed that a threat had been received, and was being investigated.
He had no further comment to make, he said.
