Parking meters will need to be altered before new coins, being introduced by the Reserve Bank, come into effect next July.
"It is critical that responsible operators ensure they have a strategy in place to deal with the changes," the NZ Parking Association said.
The Reserve Bank said in March it would introduce new 10c, 20c and 50c coins, and scrap the 5c coin from next July. It will be the biggest coinage change since decimal currency was introduced in 1967.
