KEY POINTS:
Why did they build the new Orakei rail station before organising the parking? There is room for only about 10 cars on each side of the road and they are always full before 7am. A new carpark has been half-finished for months. What is the hold-up?
Barbara Archer, Orakei.
Progress has been stopped while the council gets a land-use consent. It should be confirmed within the next three months, and then the project will be completed within another two months, weather permitting.
Are there plans to upgrade Ellerslie rail station any time soon? The old station only shelters about 15 people, and there were another 45 getting wet the other day when I was there. I read on the Auckland Regional Transport Authority website that the Ellerslie station upgrade had been delayed to provide funding for the Penrose station overbridge, but this is long completed.
Hamish MacKie, Auckland.
The Ellerslie station is a wee way down the track. It should be done between 2010 and 2013, with upgrades at Remuera, Greenlane, Penrose, Otahuhu, Mt Albert, Te Mahia, Takanini, Waitakere and Pukekohe.
We live in Northcote, and the new direct link from Esmonde Rd to Akoranga Drive is a boon. However, on the signs, there is no mention of Northcote at all, only Glenfield and Birkenhead. Would Transit consider changing the signage?
John Saunders, Northcote.
Transit says that as Northcote is signposted from the north at the Northcote Rd interchange and from the south at Onewa Rd, there are no plans to put more signs at Esmonde Rd. There is also a North Shore City Council policy of keeping signs consistent and safe to be taken into account. On any one sign the number of destinations is limited, to make it quicker and easier to read while driving.
Are there any immediate plans to have on/off ramps somewhere between Oteha Valley and Silverdale, given that this is such a long stretch of road without any exits?
Anthony Quirk, Coatesville.
No. But it's hardly the Desert Road, is it? There are plans for an interchange at Wainui to cater for a new development in Silverdale North, and this may start later this year.
