A speeding Fraggle, tumbling toilets and a racing panda were just a few of the attractions at Auckland's Domain yesterday at the annual trolley derby.
About 100 teams from around the country have spent the last two months creating and designing trolleys to race for the $10,000 prize at the Red Bull Trolley Grand Prix.
Lower Domain Drive was transformed into a 700m winding race track designed to test the machines.
Some trolleys survived better than others with the Flying Port-a-loo, driven by Mark Clews, tipping over after it failed to take one of the corners.
The trolleys were judged by a panel on three criteria: creativity of design, team showmanship and finishing times.
The panel was made up of Tammy Davis from Outrageous Fortune, TV presenter Amber Peebles, New Zealand drift champion Mike Whiddett, artist Otis Frizzell and Steve Dunstan who owns Huffer.
Some of the more bizarre trolleys were shaped like the iconic buzzy bee, roast chicken, Mr Potato Head, and a giant golf ball. Another trolley paid tribute to Outrageous Fortune.
