Hawke's Bay police had four people in custody this afternoon after stopping a vehicle believed to have been involved in the robbery of a dairy in the Napier beachside suburb of Westshore.
The raid took place about 2pm, and three males and a female believed to have been involved fled the area in a van or "people mover" which was reported soon afterwards to have been heading to the south on the Hawke's Bay Expressway between Napier and Hastings.
Police blocked off a stretch of the Expressway between Evenden and Omahu roads, Hastings, as they made the arrests.
It was understood robbers had entered the store, and taken a haul of cigarettes and several hundred dollars in cash.
It was not clear if the attendant in the shop was an owner or not but there were understood to have been ni injuries to victims.
