Wellington-based fishing company Straight Arrow has been fined $9500 and ordered to pay $2500 to an engineer who was not evacuated after being hurt in a fire on its ship.
The company pleaded guilty in the Wellington District Court to failing to report the incident to the Maritime Safety Authority and failing to ensure the safety of employees at work.
The employee did not receive medical attention until 14 days after the accident, when the ship returned to Wellington.
