The worst of the wet weather is clearing with fine dry conditions forecast for the rest of the week.
Rain is due to hit central North Island this evening dying down to showers north of the country into Auckland, but once cleared tomorrow morning the weather is look promising.
MetService meteorologist Ciaran Doolin said there was a high ridge of pressure building behind the fronts covering the country at the moment and this indicated light winds and clear skies were coming.
"Pretty much all the South Island is going to be fine tomorrow and the trend for the North Island is to improve through the course of the day."
The forecast was positive heading into the weekend with the rain staying away in most places.
