KEY POINTS:
Finance Minister Bill English heads to Australia next week for discussions on global financial developments and closer economic relations.
Mr English said it was important he get an Australian perspective on the international economic crisis.
"Our strong trade, investment and business ties with Australia mean that anything that affects the Australian economy, such as the performance and outlook for Asian economies, has an important bearing on New Zealand," he said.
Mr English will meet Australian Deputy Prime Minister Julia Gillard, Federal Treasurer Wayne Swan, Reserve Bank of Australia governor Glenn Stevens and business leaders during his February 3-5 visit.
