This Christmas the Herald is again featuring charities which have been selected for a $10,000 donation from Auckland Airport. The $120,000 to be distributed came from change donated by travellers this year.
For volunteers working for the Kaipatiki Project on the North Shore, it's all about making sure their neighbourhood is clean and green - and stays that way.
The non-profit organisation started as a community restoration project in 1988, and has grown into a green machine which every year plants thousands of trees and plants all over the North Shore - including in schools and reserves - with the help of hundreds of volunteers.
The organisation is one of 12 recipients of a $10,000 grant given to charities by Auckland Airport this Christmas.
Its manager, Hamish Hopkinson, said members were delighted to get the call telling them of the grant.
