A feast of sights awaits Aucklanders this weekend, with a mix of dance, theatre, music and visual arts on display at Auckland Festival 2009.
Australia's colourful Circus Oz is proving to be one of the main highlights this year, with its high-energy, funny and near-impossible stage acts already impressing crowds.
Festival acts selling out fast include the show La Clique, musical funnyman Tim Minchin's act and The Kreutzer - based on Beethoven's Kreutzer Sonata - a production about love and jealousy.
Other must-sees look to be The Queen St Sing Sing - a mix of song and dance from all of Oceania - and Te Karakia, a love story dealing with issues of religious and racial challenge, set around the Springbok tour in 1981.
The world premiere of Gathering Clouds - a production by Kiwi director Neil Ieremia of Black Grace - will also be a part of the festival, responding to the Greg Clydesdale report that talked about a Polynesian underclass.
The festival runs to March 22.
Tickets and details for each show are available at the AK09 website. www.aucklandfestival.co.nz
