Scaffolders were hard at work in Greytown yesterday preparing the historic St Andrew's Union Church for painting as part of a major renovation of the 113-year-old church.
A new lease of life for the church is well under way, prompted by a report that showed the building needed to be strengthened.
A committee was formed and set about acquiring money needed not merely to strengthen the building but to refit it, working to a design prepared by Accent Architects.
Rigg Zschokke are the building contractors involved with the work which has seen the church divided into two sections with one half of the interior being used as a hall and the other half reserved for worship.
Sprinklers, alarms and new wiring have been installed and an extension added at the rear containing a kitchen, a meeting room and a storeroom.
