Two Far North teenagers have been referred to Police Youth Aid after allegedly attacking their parents.
The first was a 13-year-old girl who was charged with assault with intent to injure after an incident at Opua on Friday evening in which she allegedly punched and kicked her mother.
On Sunday afternoon a juvenile boy was charged with assaulting his mother and wilful damage at Towai.
Senior Sergeant Peter Robinson of Kerikeri said police in the Far North had their hands full with domestic violence incidents, but children attacking their parents was a relatively new phenomenon.
"It's certainly a concern for us," he said, urging anyone who was a victim of or witnessed domestic violence to contact the police as soon as possible, whomever the perpetrator.
