Boaties are being reminded to slow down and steer clear of pods of dolphins in Wellington Harbour.
Distress was caused to a large pod of dolphins in the harbour on Monday night when a boat drove through it.
Department of Conservation ranger David Moss said the worst thing that can happen is the dolphins being struck by a boat's propeller.
"Most of the pods we get in Wellington are mixed age so they're both juveniles and parents, and the babies just can't get out of the way of the boats travelling at speed in the pod.
"Generally those dolphins die."
