New Zealand's most expensive apartment is being marketed in Asia for $6.3 million.
Brian Mead's Westmark is seeking planning approval for a 30-level tower in front of the 40-level Ascott-Metropolis. And he is marketing his best unit in Asia for the record price of $6.3 million - plus $60,000 for a basement carpark.
The block is planned to rise above the Chancery Carpark by the Chancery shopping centre beside Albert Park.
Together with Mark Lyon, who has since made a series of court appearances, Mr Mead developed the low-rise Chancery carparking building with deep foundations and a wide, flat roof expressly so he could eventually build the new hotel/apartment tower on top.
Three industry experts say the price being asked for the penthouse unit is well ahead of that paid for any other unit in New Zealand.
But it is still cheap compared with what financier Mark Hotchin paid when he set New Zealand's house price record by paying $14 million for his Waiheke house and 4ha beachfront.
