The trial of an army officer charged with raping and sexually violating a fellow officer began in the Palmerston North District Court today.
The man, who has name suppression, is alleged to have raped and violated the complainant while they were on officer cadet training courses at Waiouru and Burnham Army Camps.
The Crown told the jury of eight men and four women that the alleged incidents occurred from March 1998 to April 1999.
It said the woman had complained to the Army's anti-harassment officer, but she felt she had received little support and that the Army had sided with the accused.
The Crown said the complainant had kept a diary throughout the period of the alleged attacks and she would be giving evidence in the trial.
