An 8.86kg snapper from veteran fisho Trevor Davidson gave him the Lloyd Frear Memorial Shield at the Doubtless Bay Line & Rod Fishing Club's October competition.
Neill Bainbridge came in with the second best fish overall in the annual Pak'nSave event, a 6.79kg fish. The Wigley brothers Ben and Max, aged 5 and 3 respectively, also stood out with 1.72kg and 1.58kg fish respectively in the junior section, while Julie Scott won the ladies' section with a 3.95kg fish.
In other club news, the AGM was held following the event weigh-in last Sunday and saw Luke McDonald return as president, Brett Scott as deputy president, Trevor Davidson as secretary, and Sarah Russell as treasurer.
The club's next fish is for the Fairway Cup on November 7-8. The event is also known as the Matauri Bay comp as many club members like to spend the weekend at Matauri Bay motor camp prior to the holiday season.
The weigh-in will be as usual at the Mangonui Fire Station at 4pm on the Sunday.
