Whatevaz had too much firepower for Touch.O to take out their third consecutive open final title at the Far North Touch Module on Saturday.
Whatevaz featured players of the calibre of the Northland Taniwha back, Whiria Meltzer, Northern Swords' Tumoana Halkyard and former Swords rep Te Puhi Rudolph, backed up by national AFL exponent Claudia McMeekin along with a number of talented up-and-comers.
Afterwards, Meltzer said the abundance of talent in the side allowed players to construct a number of innovative plays which the Ahipara team struggled to contain.
The finals were held in gloomy conditions on Sunray Park (the Pirates' club fields situated opposite Arnold Rae Park). It was one of two local touch tournaments run in Kaitaia during the first half of the 2014/15 summer. The other, the Top Field Module, wrapped up last Thursday evening. Reports from the organisers of both events should feature in Thursday's Age.
