Some very good fish numbers were produced at the 90 Mile Beach Surfcasting Club two-day fishing contest on April 11 and 12.
Jack Roger's report from the Allan Frederikson Plate/ JNL Field day noted the 26 club members and four visitors weighed in 42 snapper, 12 trevally and 23 kahawai in conditions best described as sweepy, with a very small 2.6 tide that did not go all the way out, with weather conditions ideal with mild winds.
"The last of the 24-hour overnight fishing field days is an indicator that the summer season is moving on and winter moves in, usually when snapper moves out as well," Rogers noted.
Highlights included the heaviest snapper by Peter Froggatt at 7.70kg, heaviest trevally by Joe Herbert 3.55kg and heaviest kahawai by lady angler Ann Moses 2.28kg. Other results were Jack Rogers 7.40kg snapper, Paul Summers 3.29kg trevally, Bob White 1.74kg kahawai, Milton Arnold 6.58kg snapper, (female) Marihi Langford 2.94kg trevally, Dave Hallett 1.74kg kahawai, (visitor) Robbie Carter 5.70kg snapper.
White also took out the haggle (1.90kg) with his 1.74kg kahawai, the special junior prize went to Quaylan Wikitera, the A Fred Plate was won by Peter Froggatt weighing in the three heaviest scale fish, a combined weight of 15.23kg, with Steve Maisey, Ben Waaka, John Randall and junior Kelsey Heta collecting the most sought after draw prizes. The sponsors also provided a delicious barbecue of chops, steaks and salads.
