Tony Urlich (pictured) won the gold medal in his age/ weight division at the 2016 Oceania Asia Powerlifting Competition in Christchurch earlier this month.
The Kaitaia powerlifter said he was extremely proud to be representing his country at the competition on Monday, December 5.
He placed first overall in the 50-59 year class/ weight 93kg with a 175kg squat, 130kg benchpress and 200kg deadlift.
The Oceania Asia titles attracted more than 400 competitors representing 20 countries.
In training from home, Tony accredited his gold medal-winning performance on the international stage to his two great training mates, Lance Urlich and Kane Watson, who helped inspire him to reach these big weight targets.
