A trio from Kerikeri took out the Doubtless Bay Pharmacy Open Mixed Triples tournament at Cooper's Beach on Tuesday, July 15, with the event report noting the conditions the event was played in were brilliant.
"Who would have known there had been a storm in the Far North?" The report went on to note that entries were down, however, possibly as people were still mopping up from the devastation wrought by that storm earlier in the month. In the end, 11 combinations enjoyed being able to be out in the fresh air and play four games of 1 hour 10 minutes on wins, ends and points.
Results were, Michael Savage, Kevin Williams, Ellaine Albury (Kerikeri) 4, 22, 42, 1; Alan Thom, Barry Allison, Jill Phillips (Combined/ Church Rd) 3, 19, 42, 2; Ron Payne, Glenis Love, Bunty Barron (Cooper's) 3, 19, 41. On behalf of the club, organisers thanked the generous sponsors as well the kitchen helpers, bar and green staff and match committee.
The next event is the club's last tournament on its winter programme (before players need to don their whites again), being the George and Hilda Thomas Open, a mixed triples mufti dress event set down for this Saturday, August 2, and entries can be made to Margaret Wildbore 406-1191 or the club, 406-0330.
