The Northland Age receptionist Taryn Reid and her new SPCA adopted puppy. PICTURE/PETRINA HODGSON

SPCA puppy Tigger (Hen-pecked but happy, Northland Age March 6) didn't spend long on the shelf. The ink on last Thursday's Age was barely dry when receptionist Taryn Reid sprinted out of the office like her chair was on fire to offer the little dog a home.

Taryn duly returned with her 10-week-old companion, described by foster mum Ali Cosner as smart, playful and happy to be around children, sporting a collar and lead that should still be serviceable when she weighs 100kg and towing a dried pig's ear almost as big as she was.

She has now settled in with Taryn and her partner, just outside Kaitaia, Taryn saying she would soon have a kennel to call her own, and that she would "not really" be allowed in the house. That was soon amended to "Maybe for the first couple of days."

By now she should be sleeping on the couch and waiting for room service.
