Kaitaia teenager Evangeline (Evie) Davis has Wayne Harrison to thank, perhaps, for what appears to be a promising career as a photographer that is now hers for the taking.
It was Wayne who was instrumental in setting up an introductory on-line course in photography when she was at Kaitaia College, and encouraged her to pursue and explore the possibilities it offered, her proud father Tim Davis said.
The seed that was sown in Kaitaia has now germinated in spectacular fashion in Auckland.
Evie moved to Titirangi part-way through this year, and enrolled at Green Bay High School, where her talent has captured the attention of some very influential people.
At 17, and in her final year at secondary school, she hadn't even contemplated tertiary studies until very recently. Now, having won a $5000 arts scholarship, which will pay her university fees next year, and another award offering an internship at the Auckland Art Gallery, she is planning to take her studies to the next level, and to pursue a career in wildlife photography, and option that will allow her to combine her passions for photography and travel.
