A team of young swimmers represented the Bay of Islands Swimming Club at the Auckland Junior Championships in Henderson last month.
The team - composed of Emilia Finer (age 11), Tyler Jepsen (10), Harvey Williams (11) and Maia Williams (10) - raced against some of the best junior swimmers in the country and from across the Pacific, including top swimmers from New Caledonia and French Polynesia at the event, which was held at the West Wave Aquatic Centre from November 27-29. BOISC president Beth Finer noted all four swimmers enjoyed relatively successful campaigns at the Auckland regional competition.
"The qualifying times are quite tough and they all did well just to get there," she said, noting the team achieved many personal best times. Particular mentionwent to Tyler Jepsen from Paihia who won three bronze medals in the 50m, 100m and 200m freestyle events for her age group.
