A fantastic time was had by a number of Year 9 students from Bay of Islands College who enjoyed two days of learn-to-surf lessons on the Tutukaka Coast earlier this month, courtesy of an arrangement between their school and O'Neill's Surf Academy.
Bay College tutor Lynda Scott noted the students were all looking forward to getting back out there during the summer holidays, and also at getting the chance to go surfing again next February with the senior students (Bay College holds learn to surf classes twice a year, in February and November).
On behalf of the school, Lynda expressed thanks to teachers Andrew Smith and Esther Van Dyke along with the college's brilliant photographer, Darren Markin, for making the classes happen.
Elsewhere, the college staff and students from the Kawakawa institution also wished the young Affco girls team and their coach Damian Tana all the best when they attend the National Condor Sevens Tournament at Sacred Heart College in Auckland at the start of December.
"Competition will be fierce this year with 90 teams in all competing," Lynda predicted, adding that the college thanked the local community for its support, with special mention to Christian Prime for hooking the girls up with some warm-up shirts.
