KAITAIA LADIES. The overall winning pair for the Kaitaia ladies contesting the Nancy MacCormick 36-hole Foursomes championship emerged as Fay Patterson and Lynn McCarthny with a combined nett of 148.

The winning pairs in round 2 of the event last Wednesday were Rosaleen Steed and Liz Proctor 77 followed by Patterson and McCarthny 78, Raewyn Shaw and Marj Duncan 79 (and also a 2) then Noeleen Robson and Lorna Subritzsky 80 on countback from Cynthia Shailes and Nancy Gregory; with both Shailes and Shaw recording slam dunks. The 9-holers had a stableford competition with Patti Panther finishing on 15 and Cleone Bennett 14.

Kaitaia golf commentator Brenda Muller noted the sandblasting southwesterly on Wednesday scotched any chance for players to reach national competitive scores. In comparison, conditions were much kinder when the Kaitaia ladies hosted one of their major events of the year, the annual 36/18 hole tournament, in successful fashion. The event went ahead in ideal autumn conditions and saw a good turnout of players representing clubs from across the province. A report on the day will feature in Thursday's edition.

Tomorrow is an Eagles nett competition with players asked to be at the clubhouse by 9.15 for the draw.

HOUHORA. The Houhora Golf Club is holding its annual Stockies and Cockies and Growers Golf Day this Friday. The event starts at 10am, features a non-golfers' lucky draw, men's and ladies stableford divisions, and costs $25 per player which includes a meal. To enter, contact Cynthia Shailes 409-7833, houhoragolf@gmail.com.
