The Far North RSA Bowling Club began its winter programme by holding the Pat Doak Memorial, a mixed triples tournament, recently. Last year this tournament was a washout after two short games - however, this year, while the weather was also for a wet forecast, the rain held off luckily.
The families of Pat and Stan aka Faruk Doak catered for the day with a beautiful lunch and afternoon tea and some of the family played bowls as well, a report from the event noted.
"While Faruk was unable to make the day due to ill health, the families of Grant and Sarah, Peter and Moana and Stephen and Trina and their children would have made Faruk and Patty very proud indeed."
The Far North RSA Bowling Club was very greatful for the sponsorship by the Doak Family and thanked them very much. The following were the top placegetters, Liz Muru, Russell Hockley, Rob Payne (RSA) 4 wins, 20 ends, 42 points, 1 (e.g. 1st); Toto Thompson, Val Jones, Freda May (RSA) 3, 20, 47, 2; Jim Naylor, Trevor Smith, Pam Naylor, (Cooper's Beach) 3, 20, 39, 3; Mel Isaac, Selwyn Hargreaves, Lillian Wells (RSA) 3, 21, 46 4; Lucky draw prizes to Charlie Doak, being hopefully the first of many bowling prizes to come, Barbara Scahill, a bowler who did not play but helped to make the day a success, and Marty Doak, who dropped a '9', "unheard of by the club's top bowler!"
