Organisers of the annual 7-a-side summer social football tournament have once again issued their usual challenge to other Far North sporting institutions to place gifts of sporting relevance for underprivileged families under the Christmas tree in the Kaitaia office of the Northland Age.
The gifts will be picked up by the Salvation Army soldiers this Friday, so any other code wishing to promote itself was urged to get in quick.
Every year since the tournament's establishment in 2003, NAKFA (Northland Age Kaitaia FA) officials use part of the proceeds from team registrations to purchase footballs to put under the Age Christmas tree.
The tournament, in its 11th year, will reach its natural climax tomorrow when the finals for the cup and plate will be played.
Results from last week's knockout round saw NAKFA Cup holders Rest of the World - having muscled their way in most unconvincing fashion throughout this year's tournament - progress to meet 2013 premiership champions Aberdeen (the team formerly known as Fulton Fury) in the semi-final tomorrow evening, a replay of last year's final which Rest of the World won by PSO. However, judging on their form this season, including the most recent game which saw them whip their arch rivals 4-1, Aberdeen go into the match as favourites to take out the coveted cup.
