A Kaikohe businesswoman who only began racing ATV class competitively 18 months ago hasn't taken long to come to grips with her local track, and now plans to give her far more experienced male opponents a good run for their money.
Michelle Clark said she was watching the quadbikes racing at Kaikohe Speedway last season when her daughter turn to her and said "You can do that, mum!"
Now known as the only female ATV racer in the north, the recently converted motorsport enthusiast encouraged anybody else in the local community considering on taking up speedway to give it a crack.
"It's adrenaline-packed and such a rush! My goals are to never let go of my ATV while racing, to have fun and learn enough from the men I race with and to one day beat them."
A property manager for a Mid North real estate firm, Michelle said she particularly enjoyed the camaraderie, and had also received plenty of support and guidance from the men she races against.
