A few weeks ago it was Oruaiti School children who were unimpressed by the dumping of household rubbish at Mangonui's Maori Point (Even kids know better, April 17).
Last week it was a Mangonui resident who took umbrage at an even bigger pile that was left opposite the cemetery in Wrathall Road.
The good news was that the Far North District Council had responded promptly, taking the rubbish away, sorting through it and coming up with a name, but the resident, who did not wish to be identified, was struggling to understand the mentality of those responsible.

She had lived at Mangonui for some years, she said, and had seen rubbish dumped opposite the cemetery before, but this was the worst. The council had done a very good job, and would be issuing the owner with an infringement notice. But the problem of illegal dumping was getting worse.
