Ahipara's Gumdiggers Cafe is not unused to serving celebrities, although most do their best to remain incognito, or at least avoid the attention of fans. Two household names who called in for coffee yesterday were not at all put out to be recognised, however, and were more than happy to hop across the road to meet some young fans.
Jools and Lynda Topp, who had been filming for a new show and were about to head home to Helensville, spent the best part of half an hour at the Sandhoppers early childhood centre, where they sang a few songs, including the perennial favourite She'll be Coming Round the Mountain, and checked out the girls in the kitchen ("That's where they reckon it all happens," manager Glenys Brasell said).
They also had a go on the swings before they said their goodbyes, taking with them a prized recipe for paua in cream on fried bread.
