My experience of the New Zealand health system is very positive.
After an initial appointment at Kaikohe, I went to Whangarei for some surgery, which went well. It was followed up a few days later with a phone call to check on me.
Two weeks later I went to Auckland Hospital for nearly three weeks' radiotherapy. I was put up at the Domain Lodge at no cost. Their care was friendly and professional at all times, with assurances of after-care and follow-up.
While I was there I visited the Auckland War Memorial Museum, where I looked up the World War I records of a great uncle, with the very helpful staff. They were very detailed but some parts read: 25th Spec. Coy. M.G.S Pvte, Glasson Robert William, 22 wounded, in action (g.s.w head) 23-11-17 Ameins. Died, meningitis, blind, Takapuna, 3.8.1931. British War Medal Victory Medal.
Meanwhile downtown, the Gay Pride Hero Parade was under way, celebrating their freedoms and diversity and who they are, with full police support, including a specially rainbow-painted car.
