Children suffer

Room 12, Kaitaia Primary School, wants to raise awareness of child poverty in Kaitaia. Families that live in poverty often cannot buy food because they don't have enough money. Because they have no food, children suffer.

Eighty thousand children in New Zealand go to school hungry every day. Being hungry affects children's ability to focus, learn, and makes them irritable. For children of poverty to have a chance in life they need to have three healthy meals a day. We encourage parents to use their money wisely - go buy food first, and after that they can do whatever they want.

We also encourage the government to support the 'Feed the Kids in Schools' programme, as we think that all children deserve the right to be happy and healthy and enjoy going to school to learn.
