Turtles and Boeings
How fascinating to read in the Northland Age of Tuesday March 11 of a wonderful group releasing to the ocean a turtle that had been nursed back to good health. It was fitted with a simple transmitter so that we can learn where it is.
On the same day we also read about the loss of a Boeing 777, and we cannot find it.
What a shame that the turtle did not lend it the simple transmitter so we could follow its progress across the Asian sky.
One must surely ponder why the old black box is still in use when the technology exists to make instant and continuous transmission of data. Maybe the pilots should be issued with iPads so they can Skype back to base and tell us what is going on, or maybe even better, they could give the turtle a free ride home.
